From Tragedy to Triumph. Screen Printing is Her Passion

My name is Dawn Gibson. I own a screen printing and apparel decorating business in Discovery Bay, California. DK Custom Tees.

I'd like to share my personal story about I got started and have grown my screen printing business. I had the opportunity to go back to school and my wife wanted to own a small business.

After I graduated from school, my wife and I both worked full time jobs but we also worked hard at learning how to decorate garments.

It was slow going for almost 10 years as we slowly built a reputation and client base.

In 2015, my wife was diagnosed with colon cancer. While I was at home taking care of her, the business started to grow as I was able to take on jobs I couldn't before because I was working a job out of the area.

My wife passed away in April 2016 and the only thing that kept me sane was working on client's jobs. The more jobs I printed, the better I became. What was her dream is now my passion.

What I do is a passion, not just a job. Customer service is very important to me, it's not just some print job. If it's someone's gift or team shirts or fundraiser--to them its very important. And I take that very seriously. I try to look at every job from the client's point of view and always ask myself if I would be happy with the completed job. For me, everything revolves around screen printing and garment decorating and how I can do it better.
